Every once in a while, I like to marvel at the crazy-amazing pieces designers come up with, which usually means I spend an afternoon scrolling through slideshows of collections by Alexander McQueen. (Love LOVE him! May he R.I.P.) But when I came across a bevy of nutso-looking rings, I couldn’t help but feature them. They’re bizarre and fascinating at the same time–in my opinion–and though I enjoy a good conversation piece every once in a while, I’m not sure I could pull off a carrot ring. The “finger” ring kind of creeps me out and makes me think of a Halloween fake zombie finger prank!
Animal heads and skulls seem to be the most popular “bizarre” find in jewelry, so I wasn’t surprised to find four that fit into that category. I do like that none of the three options are “cutesy” because I think that makes them much more high-fashion. And I really don’t mind the helmet ring at all–I think it’s the most wearable of all the pieces.
Despite their price (all are $1,000 and up), would YOU wear any of these?

Purple is my favorite color to wear in the fall months because it’s more unexpected than browns and grays, but most shades are dark enough to blend easily into your fall wardrobe. Thanks, Pantone, for making my obsession with deep purple a way to stay trendy!
Imagine opening up a long gray trench coat to reveal the rich purple of the dress pictured above! The royal-hued frock also reminds me of the white Halston Heritage dress Sarah Jessica Parker wears in Sex & the City 2, making it even more lust-worthy.
The bangle is a great option if you’re new to purple and too shy to jump in headfirst–bangles are in no matter what color they may be, and this option is a simple acrylic cuff that makes a statement without shouting too loud.
Which is more than I can say for those fabulous boots! For the brazen fashionista, the boots will instantly jazz up any black miniskirt. Make sure these are the center of attention and keep everything else subdued.
The sequined hat is an adorable addition to your look on a casual date–add appeal to a simple yet sexy outfit like a classic white tee and pair of skinny jeans. Throw on a blazer when the temp drops, and you’ll look like a million bucks.
And lastly, there’s nothing that cheers me up more on a rainy day (other than cuddling, hot chocolate and a good book) than a pretty umbrella like the one above. It makes the rain seem a little less dreary!
All items under $50!

Bright yellowy-orange might seem like a bizarre choice for fall, but Pantone announced that Golden Glow will be a fall fashion color this year–and it totally makes sense! Who doesn’t love the idea of adding a ray of sunshine to an otherwise drab fall wardrobe?! Just like with woodbine green, keep this limited to unexpected accessories like the sunny filigree earrings or the wavy amber bangle pictured. Too much of this color and you’ll look more “The Man in the Yellow Hat” from Curious George than the trendy fashionista.
Speaking of hats, I love the idea of wearing a long gray trench, topped with the sunny knit hat above or in tandem with the mustard-y mitten-gloves.
Other less obvious options are the simple enamel dome ring, which would look great with a black dress and purple pumps, or the skinny belt, which would look divine over a simple white button-down tunic.
As always, every item pictured is under $50!

Armani Collezioni pebbled wool pencil skirt from Saks is an investment at $435.00
In 1996, Sharon Stone wore a Gap t-shirt… to the Oscars. Revolutionary at the time, the concept of high-low dressing has since become almost commonplace. But, how best to incorporate both designer investment pieces and more mundane items from J. Crew or Gap?
Tori Mistick of Eco-Fashionista has some easy-to-follow tips that will help you stretch your fashion budget with style.
“High-Low dressing can be easy to achieve. Every woman should invest in basics that will carry her from season to season like great fitting black pants, well made pencil skirts, and all leather shoes.
These are the pieces you want to invest in because not only will they work year after year from a style perspective, but they can all be repaired or altered when you need it. Leather shoes and can be resoled, something you could not to do to an all plastic and pleather pump.
The “low” pieces should be trendy things that you adore and want to wear right now, but probably wouldn’t be caught dead in 10 years from now. Don’t worry about it; these pieces probably won’t last 10 years anyway.

Scoop neck tee from Gap is a bargain at only $10.00
If you are seeking a more eco-friendly way to go high-low in your wardrobe, try vintage and thrift shopping. You will find great deals on fun pieces like belts, scarves, vintage dresses and plenty of sequins to mix in with the basics that you spent a little more on.
Rachel Bilson is often seen with vintage pieces mixed into her designer wardrobe, and of course, we can’t forget Kate Moss, who gets inspiration for her Top Shop designs from her own vintage collection.
If your town doesn’t have any remarkable vintage or secondhand shops, look no further than EBay, where you will find awesome pieces for amazing prices by searching a little off the beaten path.”
Tori Mistick holds a Certificate in Fashion Promotion from London College of Fashion and a Bachelors degree in Integrated Marketing Communications. In addition to writing for Eco-Fashionista, she has also worked for a lifestyle magazine, an eco-friendly fashion accessories company, and a national, high-end retailer. Tori believes that the worst crime of fashion is to blend in, and strives to be unique in everything she does for herself and her clients.

| Trend Alert: Cropped Tweed
Posted: 24 Sep 2010 10:10 PM PDT
One of my favorite fall trends is a cropped tweed jacket. This classic silhouette is super super chic for fall!
Zoe Saldana has been rocking this look for a while now and the girl pulls it off amazingly. We all know the tweed jackets became an instant classic decades a go and they never seem to go out of style, which means this a great investment for fall.
Pair a jacket like this with a pair of tailored shorts for day and then skin-tight skinny jeans for a modern update. Skinny jeans add some edge and sex appeal to the typically conservative jacket.
Seriously ladies, this sophisticated look is very versatile and it can work for anywhere from a night out to the office…its all about adding the right accessories to dress the look up or down.
Quality is important with this look so be careful with which jacket you pick out. I love the jackets that have some luxe details, like the pearl buttons on this jacket from Express. It’s a little pricey at $77 but but IMO totally worth the splurge!!
And if you have the budget this season, I would say this a great thing to splurge a little on because it will be fashionable for many fall seasons to come. Check out below for some options in an array of prices!

Did you know that September 25−October 2 is Banned Book Week? This is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment. Throughout the week, librarians, teachers, and booksellers across the country use Banned Books Week to draw attention to the danger that exists when restraints are imposed on the availability of information in a free society.
Now you can use banned Book Week to make a real fashion statement with a tank or tee from Classic Coup. This is a company that was born out of passion — a love of great books and a rebel desire to move readers to reject the status quo and live a deliberate life of positive change.
Classic Coup tanks and tees are inspired by classic literature – each tee illustrates a theme from a classic novel — but with a distinctively modern twist. The firm also supports global education. For each product sold, a book is donated to children in orphanages and schools in Quito, Ecuador, through the non-profit organization Kaleo Kids.
One of my favorites is the “Heathcliff” tank, pictured. The 100% fine-combed jersey cotton tee has a baby rib cotton stretchable collar and is styled to flatter a girl with curves. Inspired Wuthering Heights’ antihero and Brontë’s original bad boy Heathcliff, the tank sports an arm tattoo of his soulmate, Catherine. Retail $25
For sheer statement value, I also love the “Be Subversive” tee. This tee rallies rebels who reject the status quo and choose to live deliberate lives. The tee is also made of 100% fine-combed jersey cotton. Lighter and more fashionable than a conventional, baggy tee, this garment is available in “girly” fitted sizes. Retail $25
You can shop online at Monogram Lane, the exclusive online retailer of Classic Coup products.

Another of Pantone’s Fall Fashion color picks is woodbine. Woodbine is a tricky color–it’s almost like a subdued lime green, but not quite an army green. It reminds me of money…and lettuce!
The best way to incorporate this trendy color is to find affordable accessories to jazz up your look, which will keep you up-to-date without breaking the bank. The oversized clutch would go great with an all-black ensemble because it’s more surprising than this season’s popular grays. Try either the sparkly green bracelet or beaded draped necklace over a neutral sweater for a shock of color at the office.
If you’re a big fan of woodbine, go all-out for the green cardigan, which is totally on-trend with a cute bow at the neckline. I would layer it over a pale pink tank and finish it with a pair of tailored gray dress pants for a business casual look. The Urban Decay stardust eyeshadow glimmers wonderfully–for maximum impact, start with a charcoal smoky eye and kick it up a notch by brushing a layer of the bright green on your lids and just under your lower lash line!
Come on, ladies–spend your green on some green!

Each fall, Pantone publishes its Fall Fashion Color Report, and this year, Lipstick Red is on the list. This is the color you would get if you melted all of your favorite lipsticks together to create the ultimate shade of pinky-red. This shade of red will flatter almost any skintone, so don’t be shy when updating your fall wardrobe. The fiery color will make you feel vampy like a pinup girl!
My favorite piece in this lineup is most definitely that fantastic cocktail ring! It’s a little pinker, but it’s big and eye-catching! I’m also loving the skirt because it makes me think of ballerinas, and it is, in fact, sold by a dancewear company (surprise, surprise). Be sure to pair it with non-dancewear, like a casual fitted tee, to keep it from looking like you’re in transit to dance class. It’s also ultra-feminine, so it would look great with some long, chunky chains around your neck or studded booties.
The bowler bag is a great casual weekend overnight bag, and I love that it combines two different shades of reddish pink. In fact, that’s what I love most about Lipstick Red–it’s easy to combine it with varying shades.
And, of course, you can’t forget to tip your fingers with the fiery hue–it’s a nice twist on the typical red nailpolish.
And just in case you haven’t noticed, everything pictured is under $50!

Create four totally different looks while wearing the same amazing ruffle dress from ASOS — just by changing your shoes!
Wear the “ladylike” peep-toe pumps for a special occasion, such as a wedding or formal event. Pair the dress with the strappy “demure” heels for date night. Enjoy a girls’ night out in the “rocker” platforms. Show your playful side in the “funky” booties on a bachelorette’s weekend in Atlantic City or Vegas!
Who knew there were so many shoe options for just one dress?!

As more and more of my friends get engaged and married, I can’t help but imagine just what I would want in an engagement ring. Most engagement rings are absolutely beautiful (I mean, come on…sparkly diamonds in a shiny setting?!!) but I definitely want something truly unique–something more than just a princess-cut solitaire in white gold. I see plenty of ads for stunning engagement rings, but I can never seem to find a comprehensive database of diamonds and settings to create a one-of-a-kind ring that I can…gently urge my boyfriend to buy for me someday. Not to mention, most of the diamond engagement rings that catch my eye are probably leaps and bounds past a realistic budget.

That’s why I’m thankful for companies like Abazias. Abazias has a “ring builder” right on their homepage that makes it easy to narrow your search by cut, color, clarity, carat size and price. I’ve written about Abazias before, but I often rediscover just how easy it is to “design” engagement rings using their website.
The ring pictured is one I put together as an example in about three minutes.
It features a 2.02-carat cushion-cut center diamond (VS1 clarity) and a tapered band with channel set diamonds. It’s simple and modern with romantic appeal. And, of course, this is only one of thousands of different pairings you can make with Abazias’ collection of over 150,000 certified diamonds and hundreds of beautiful settings in yellow gold, white gold, platinum and palladium.
On my last visit to the Abazias website, I noticed a video of a ring being cast, and I couldn’t help but marvel at the process. I’ve seen the casting of a silver ring before, but bringing diamonds into the mix is so much more exciting! It’s so neat to see the bright blue wax molds become a gorgeous diamond ring!
Abazias also offers a diamond education page with a wealth of information on every aspect of the diamond industry, from the Fundamental Four Cs to the history of fancy cut diamonds. So not only can you learn more about what maximizes a diamond’s brilliance, but you can forward the lessons on to your boyfriend as a not-so-subtle hint to what you’re looking for.
Even if you’re not in the market for an engagement ring quite yet, it’s just fun to play with the ring builder and see what you can come up with!
