Current Obsession: Black & Blush
Friday, November 19th, 2010I can’t get over how often I see this color combination these days–and though I’m inclined to say that blush is the new black, my fashion instincts say that black will never be replaced, but it will most definitely be enhanced by this ultra-feminine light pink hue.
Here, I’ve picked out a handful of pieces (all under $50!) to show just how great this color pairing is. When I’m dressing up my favorite black skirt or skinny black dress pants, I usually opt for a bright color, like royal blue or bright purple, to offset so much black, which is ideal for a girls’ night out. However, I view blush as a more office-friendly hue that would do double duty for a date night because it’s feminine and romantic, especially when presented in satiny fabrics with ruffles, bows and lace.
Though I didn’t choose these pieces to necessarily be paired together, as they’re shown, I love the middle combination of the lace cutout skirt with the ruched black top. I’m using that look as inspiration for a holiday party outfit this season–it’d be a great alternative to the typical red, gold or silver picks for which I would normally reach.
As always, remember to balance out the ruffly, femme details of a top by wearing black bottoms with straighter, crisp lines. Or vice versa if you go for a layered skirt.
