Sultry summer styles on sale!

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Today it finally hit me that cooler weather, though still a month away, will be here in the blink of an eye. And while I’m not particularly loving the humid, 90+ degree days we’ve been having here in the Tri-State area, it’s always hard for me to look forward to when the heat dissipates. That said, I can do a good job of keeping my mind off of the season change by perusing all the sales on summer fashions!

So today, while sitting in my freezing cold office, I went in search of hot styles to make the most of the sultry weekends that are still left! There are a LOT of great deals out there. Here’s one of the best that I found so far…

I’m loving these purple wedges espadrilles from Piperlime, which is a website I don’t frequent…but I will now — or at least their sale section! This shade of purple is great for the summer, and the fact that they’re peep-toes means you can wear them into the beginning of fall. The best part about them is that they’re only $29.99! And, as of the date of this post, they’re available in every size, from 5½ to 10! They also come in a super cute and preppy blue plaid, and there are a few sizes left in brown and black. They’ve also gotten great customer ratings for being comfy, which is definitely a plus!

A couple of other sites I’ve visited for great summer sales:

Forever21

New York & Company (I love the Downtown Split Neck Dress! Only $14.99!!)

ModCloth (Tea or Coffee Dress for $24.99! And Top It Off Tank for $15.99!))

Famous Footwear (I just bought A Touch of Nina Women’s Larado in Berry for $19.99 and I LOVE them!)

Gap (Great sale on basic tees and denim! They also have lightweight blazers on sale for less than $35!)

Perfect shoes for summer’s steamy Saturday nights

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

July is here and that means some steamy nights! Messy up dos, flirty little dresses and some seriously sexy heels are all the weapons I need to face soaring temperatures on those hot Saturday nights.

Recently, I added the most perfect shoes to my summer wardrobe — just right for Saturday night on the town! These “Basket” wedges from Two Lips Shoes are ideal for everything from dinner at a café on the waterfront, to early evening strolling down Philly’s famed South Street, to a summery outdoor concert.

The 4” heels (plus platform) give me a little extra height (A huge bonus since I’ve always lamented my paltry 5’5”) and are simply gorgeous. The upper is vegan-friendly faux leather and is covered with brightly colored sequins and gemstones. The shoes have a flattering ankle strap and a trendy, strappy look. The cork wedge is ultra light and the shoes are well padded, so they really are wonderfully comfortable. Retail $79.99

Two Lips Shoes designs a whole range of chic and comfortable footwear for women. Whether you’re looking for dress shoes, flats wedges, or boots, the Two Lips look is easily recognizable — fashionable, edgy, and most of all – fun!

The line has already been discovered by great stylists everywhere and shoes from Two Lips can be seen featured in major fashion, style and women’s magazines – from Regard, to Glamour, to Southern Bride.

Want to get your own? Two Lips Shoes can be found at retail stores, online stores, fine department stores and specialty stores — including a great range of choices at one of my favorite retailers, DSW Shoes. Or you can see the entire selection at the Two Lips online store .

Now, I just need to convince hubby to take me dancing this Saturday!

Sandals by OKA b. are cute, comfortable and recyclable!

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

As Earth Day approaches, I have been searching for companies that go beyond the ordinary in their efforts to stay green. Reducing your carbon footprint is great, don’t get me wrong, but there are some fashion firms out there that take environmental awareness to the next level.

One of my favorites is OKA b. Shoes That Love You. OKA b. makes the most comfortable sandals I’ve ever worn — cushy, cute, slip-on thongs that I literally keep by the front door.

But the coolest part about this company is that once your sandals are too worn out to wear anymore, you can send them back! OKA b. grinds them up, mixes the grind in with “virgin grind,” and voila! They are turned into brand new, adorable sandals!

And the program is definitely working. According to OKA b., the plant is literally filled with brilliant colors of shoes that loyal customers have sent for recycling after years of use.

I like all of the styles, but have two favorites that I reach for again and again. First, is the Lucy. (pictured above) I have these in a light honey color, which is neutral and goes with everything. This is especially useful in spring – it’s warm enough for sandals, but I can’t wear white quite yet. The oversized, intricately beaded chrysanthemum flowers give them a sophisticated edge and, like all sandals by OKA b., the Lucy is available in a rainbow of colors. Retail $40.00

I also adore the Madison. (at right) With their cute ribbon bows and jelly bean colors, these sandals are preppy personified (and right up my alley!). The interchangeable ribbons even allow you to personalize your style! Retail $30.00

In addition to the Lucy and the Madison, OKA b. has dozens of other styles — from ribbons and flowers to jewels and pendants — in thongs, slides, flats, heels, closed toe or classic. OKA b. even has shoes specifically designed for men!

No matter which design you choose, the folks at OKA b. work hard to ensure that fashion and comfort are never mutually exclusive. Armed with an eye for beauty and a mind for comfort, the savvy designers have integrated the principals of reflexology using a massaging foot bed, bringing you comfort with each step. Also, the proprietary Microplast® process creates a material that cushions feet while remaining antimicrobial, waterproof, washable, and of course recyclable!

Green and adorable sandals from OKA b., just in time for spring. What more could you ask for?

Anyone for shopping in Paris?

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

With our staff member Cindy away in France, Keri and I have been longingly discussing the absolutely perfect vacation she must be having. Until yesterday, when she called and we found out that the airline had lost her luggage! Instant reaction: horror. But then we thought, hmmm… forced to go shopping in Paris? Poor Cindy!

If I was Cindy (and right now, I fervently wish that I was!) the first purchase I’d make is a traditional French market basket. These durable bags are multi-purpose – from beach, to market, to sightseeing – and quintessentially French. One of my favorite incorporates two sets of handles – one for carrying over the shoulder and one shorted set to use when toting heavier loads. At only $38 this is a great investment and will look trés chic for years!

Then, I would definitely need some comfy shoes for all of that sightseeing! And what’s more appropriate than a saucy pair of espadrilles? Rope-trimmed, canvas shoes with a rubber sole – more comfortable than going barefoot! My favorite pair is called Atlantique and incorporates nautical-inspired blue stripes reminiscent of Brigitte Bardot frolicking on the French Riviera. These are still made by hand in a tiny village high in the Pyrénées (yes, truly)! Retail $48

For more great French style, I like Quel Objet. If I can’t actually be vacationing Paris, at least I can look like I did!

Vacation style that will turn heads!

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

After a long day on the beach, I want to slip into something that’s comfortable, but I refuse to sacrifice style. And a treasured evening with my hubby in a gorgeous tropical location is not time to pull a rumpled cotton sundress from the suitcase!

The perfect solution? This fabulous Faviana dress (pictured). The dress is ruched and cleverly made of stretch mesh. You can literally crunch it into a 3” ball and it never wrinkles! This is the perfect piece for your first evening away. Hop off the plane and in a quick-change you’re ready to head out for margaritas and some dancing!

This little dress is also an extremely flattering cut. And stretch, on vacation? Come on girls, is there anything better?!

Lucky for me, the Faviana cocktail dress comes in red and royal blue – two of my favorite picks for an eye catching ensemble. It is available in sizes extra small through large.

You can see the full range of gorgeous cocktail dresses, full length evening gowns, and more at Faviana . To purchase the stretch mess dress, visit Affinity, Claire’s , Shop the Vu, Simply Dresses or other fine retailers in your area. Retail $198.

Of course, even the most beautiful dress needs a little accessorizing. And what better way than some great slides? I found the Rampage Montauk 2 polka dot slides pictured at Shoe Mall.

These adorable slides are dressy enough to pair with a cocktail dress, but cute enough to work with capris, minis or even dressy shorts.

The slides are also so comfortable– an absolute must during your vacation for sightseeing, dancing, or shopping. Cleverly hidden under the fabric is a footbed made of cork, so you can spend the day or night on your feet, look glam, and be ready to start all over again the next day! They are also very lightweight, great for light-packing for vacation travel. Retail $39.95

ShoeMall is one of the best online shoe stores ever. They have an incredibleselection of women’s shoes from all of the best designers. From Anne Klein to Diesel, Doc Marten, Kenneth Cole and dozens more – no matter what you’re looking for, you’re sure to find it at ShoeMall.

Best of all, today, you get 20% off of your order! The ShoeMall coupon code is SHAMROCK, plus get free shipping everyday. And, don’t forget to bookmark the ShoeMall Coupon Codes and stay up-to-date on the latest promotions!

Sexy shoes just perfect for New Year’s Eve

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

New Year’s Eve is tomorrow night. I have the dress. I have the accessories. Now, I need some new shoes!

Like Carrie Bradshaw, I absolutely love shoes. My husband doesn’t understand the difference that a buckle, T-strap, or heel height can make and simply can’t fathom why anyone would need 7 pairs of black pumps. Sigh… men.

Even though I have lots of shoes, for this special night, I need something with a little more sizzle. Some of the sexiest, most stylish shoes I’ve found are at Frederick’s. Until this year, when I thought of Frederick’s, my mind went to lingerie only. But I have since found out (to my great happiness) that they carry a huge range of necessities – from party dresses, to accessories, to wonderful, wonderful shoes.

For New Year’s Eve, I absolutely covet the Double Wrap Sandal. One of my favorite styles, the double wrap sandal crosses at the ankle holds your foot in firmly place – a must for a night of dancing! The 4 1/2″inch enamel-plated stiletto heel is the perfect height (meaning I can still walk). And the sassy metallic silver works with almost everything in my closet.  Plus – and here’s the best part – they are on sale for only $17.99!

Or, if you’re fighting the snow, Frederick’s Pointed Toe Sequin Pump is a great option. These shimmering, sequined 4” pumps instantly jazz up a simple LBD. Available in basic black and sparkly silver, these pumps are only $34.00 and are guaranteed to become the go-to shoes for festive evenings.

A trendy option that takes the gladiator look to a whole new level is the Strappy Satin Stiletto. Sleek satin straps and a 4 1⁄2″ heel paired with a short skirt and he won’t be able to take his eyes off of your legs! On sale now for the super low price of only $19.99 (previously $39.99).

One of the best things about Fredericks, though, is the entire selection of what they call shoe solutions (I call them salvation!).  Gel Heel Guards, Cushioning Insoles, Ball of Foot Gel Cushions and Anti-Friction Blister Balm will ensure that you ring in the new year feeling fabulous in your new heels!

On the 8th day of Christmas… foldable ballet flats for the well-heeled woman

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

I’ve been shopping after work this week… a lot. And my feet are killing me! That’s why I was so excited to learn about CitySlips. These are foldable ballet flats that fit right into your purse – ready whenever you need them. And not a moment too soon – I mean, who can get any serious Christmas shopping done in 4” heels?!

And since I am not about to give up my favorite heels anytime soon, CitySlips are the perfect solution. Late evening out? Look fabulous all night, but head home in your CitySlips! Shopping after work? Pull the ballet flats right out of your handbag and you’re all set. No cab? No worries!

CitySlips were developed by former NYU students Susie Levitt and Katie Shea. Living in heels in NYC isn’t for the faint of heart, so the friends put their heads together to find a solution. The ballet flats they’ve designed are a combination of a rigid flat shoe and a sock-like slipper. The leather-like material has an innovative rubber, double-soled structure — one under top of foot and another under bottom of foot, for extra cushioning, comfort, and support. And the outer soles are thin enough to allow the shoes to be folded, but durable enough for daily use.

Although I’d pay just about anything for comfortable shoes on those long days when my feet are just aching, CitySlips are incredibly affordable! A pair of ballet flats with carrying case are only $27.99 and are available in shimmery gold, neutral silver, or classic black.

So slip into a pair. You’ll be glad you did!

The great flip-flop debate is over!

Friday, July 31st, 2009

The results are in! By an overwhelming margin, according to our only-a-little-bit-scientific month long poll, flip flops were deemed inappropriate for the workplace. I have to admit, as much as I love my Havaianas, I don’t wear them in the office. So, what’s a girl to do?

A couple of great options I found offer the cushy comfort of your best beach shoes, but are stylish enough to pass the “office test.” They also have what I call the “sherbet factor.” Don’t you always buy summer sandals in delicious colors that would look plain old goofy in any other type of shoe?

My faves include:

“Dainty” by Dolce Vita. Only $50, in white. Extremely practical. These will go with everything in my closet – from shorts to sundresses. Comfortable enough to wear all day and stylish enough to wear with a pair of capris on a Dress Down Friday.

“Whip Gloss” by Kenneth Cole. An unbelievable $60. Slides are always so easy. A kitten heel makes them ladylike for the office, but hot with a little dress for the weekend.

“Lorel” by Kate Spade. I love, love, love this shoe. It’s got everything a summer shoe needs – color, style and of course, whimsy. At $191, this is over half off!

“Gucci thong” in lilac. Mmmmm. A little out of my price range at $284, but so yummy, I would certainly be tempted.

These great finds are all available at www.bluefly.com. They are having a special One Day Only Shoe Sale today, with an amazing up to 65% off, including sandals. Guess where I’m headed once this is posted?

A white shoe for me, a white shoe for you

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

I went shoe shopping the other day to visit my favorite wedges at Famous Footwear, and to my surprise, they were finally on sale! I immediately snatched up the only 7 ½ they had in black patent, and considered ordering the white patent ones, too. (At FF, you can order shoes directly from the store and they deliver them right to your door, no shipping!) As I walked toward the register after convincing myself not to get the white ones, I spotted a pair of woven white leather high heel sandals and FELL IN LOVE with them.

Inspired by these amazingly gorgeous shoes (and the fact that Memorial Day is fast approaching), I’ve found five more pairs of white sandals to don when the weather’s nice.

  1. Piperlime® is selling these adorable flat white sandals that have all the comfort of flops (that’s flip flops) but with more style, and a heel strap to keep them from making that “flop” sound when the sole of the shoe hits the sole of your foot. (These are way nicer than my foam Old Navy flops!)
  2. Payless® is practically giving away these white peep-toe slingbacks. The only drawback is they’re in white canvas, so be sure not to go traipsing around in any grassy fields or anything.
  3. I love love DSW’s online store because it gives customers a chance to review a shoe’s comfort, length and width, which comes in SO handy when buying shoes online. These small wedge thongs by Italian Shoemakers come in great spring colors—including white, of course—and customers have rated them as very comfortable, which seems to be a rarity when it comes to thong-style sandals. (No one likes chafing between the toes!)
  4. Steve Madden® has a pair of white ruffle-y flat thongs on clearance. I love anything with ruffles (at least the small, cute kind and not the big, scary 80s kind), and spring’s the best time to pair white ruffle-y shoes with a bold floral top.
  5. These gladiator wedges by diba® on Zappos.com are embellished with cute medallions, and they make a statement without being too over-the-top. Pair them with a white Goddess-style dress or top (another season must-have, according to Miss Susan, listed below) to feel like Grecian royalty.
